Pathway overview
Lets a Canadian citizen or permanent resident sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner for permanent residence.
Verified directly from IRCC's own eligibility page. To sponsor, you must be at least 18, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person registered under the Canadian Indian Act, live in Canada (or show you plan to move back if a citizen living abroad), and sign an undertaking/sponsorship agreement. In most cases there is no income requirement — one only applies in specific dependent-child scenarios. You cannot sponsor if, among other things, you were yourself sponsored as a spouse/partner less than 5 years ago, are incarcerated, are behind on an immigration loan or court-ordered family support, declared bankruptcy and are undischarged, are receiving non-disability social assistance, or were convicted of a violent criminal offence, an offence against a relative causing bodily harm, or a sexual offence. Quebec residents must also meet Quebec's own separate sponsorship requirements (not covered by this rule set).
