Pathway overview
For the spouse, unmarried child under 21, or parent (of an adult citizen) of a U.S. citizen, to become a lawful permanent resident from within the U.S.
Verified directly from USCIS's own eligibility page, for adjustment of status (applying from within the U.S.): you must be an immediate relative (spouse, unmarried child under 21, or parent of a U.S. citizen who is 21 or older); you must have been inspected and admitted, or inspected and paroled, into the U.S. (limited exceptions exist and aren't automatically applied here); you must be physically present in the U.S. when you file Form I-485; and you must be the beneficiary of an approved or still-pending Form I-130 petition. Immigrant visas for immediate relatives are always immediately available — there's no waiting-list check. You must also be admissible (INA 212(a)), not subject to a bar to adjustment (INA 245(c)), and merit the favorable exercise of USCIS's discretion — all case-by-case officer judgment calls this tool doesn't reduce to a checked rule. If you're outside the U.S. instead, see consular processing (not modeled by this program entry).
